Story of Transformation
Gasengayire Agnes
The greatest gift Rabagirana gave me was a renewed mindset. From being labeled a jobless mother, I’ve become a source of hope and income for my family.
An Awakening to Self-Reliance
My name is Gasengayire Agnes, and I once believed that starting a business was out of reach for someone like me. Before attending the community development training with Rabagirana Ministries, I thought my family had nothing, no resources, no opportunities.
But through the sessions and the group readings, especially the lesson on self-reliance, something awakened in me. I realized I didn’t need to wait for someone to come rescue us. I could begin right where I was, with what I had.
Starting Small
One day, a friend gifted me a single hen to eat. But instead of consuming it, I chose to let it grow. When it didn’t yield much, I sold it and used the money to invest in better-quality hens. I started with six, and now I have over 360.
Today, I earn about 5,000 Rwandan Francs daily from selling eggs, something I never imagined. At first, I misunderstood Rabagirana, expecting handouts like food, clothes, or school fees.
A Transformed Mindset
At times, I even questioned why I kept going. But the truth is, the greatest gift Rabagirana gave me was a renewed mindset. I now encourage others in our Unity Group to think beyond dependency and embrace the power of community-driven change.
My husband once doubted the value of my involvement, but today he sees the transformation and supports me. From being labeled a jobless mother, I’ve become a source of hope and income for my family. I truly believe that if we all begin to think positively and work together, our whole community can be transformed.
